The Genesee Conservation District started the Flint Forestry Program in 2009, bringing together federal, state, and local funding to conduct tree inventories, street tree management planning, hazardous tree removal, replanting, and wood utilization in the City of Flint. As a part of this program, we worked in partnership with the Genesee County Habitat for Humanity to establish Flint’s Urbanwood Marketplace. All GCD Urbanwood Products are made directly from hazardous trees removed in the City of Flint, with proceeds from sales benefiting both the Genesee Conservation District and the Genesee County Habitat for Humanity.

Urban Ashes reclaims a piece of Michigan's environmental legacy with fine furniture and picture frames. Each unique piece is hand crafted and hand finished in Michigan with Michigan urban wood salvaged from local ash and other trees. These are trees that grew on our streets, in our yards, in our parks, and in other urban areas. All of the furniture and frames are hand-finished with petroleum-free finishes.
